The 2008 14U-T Cougars finished a successful 2008 season by winning The Mid-Suburban Baseball League (MSBL) A Division Tournament. The team compiled a 7 - 3 record
in their MSBL division and 15 - 6 overall record in the MSBL. In tournament play, they finished 10 - 5 and were 29 - 13 overall.
During the season the Cougars hit the ball well, played good defense, but their aggressive base running usually set the tone.
In the MSBL Tournament, the Cougars had to battle after losing the first game. Three straight wins earned the Cougars a spot in the playoffs, and a 2 - 1
win over Windy City Travelers moved the Cougars into the championship game against the Lombard Lightning. In the bottom of the
first, lead off hitter Jake Rzeszutko started Cougars off with a single, moved to 2nd on Tom Kelly's walk and scored when
the second baseman committed an error on Kevin Klein's grounder. Kelly and Klein scored on Matt DiFrancesca's fly ball
and a single by Cori Herbert. Herbert scored on Mike Trumbull's single giving the Cougars a 4 - 1 lead. The Cougars never
surrendered the lead winning 7 - 2 behind Herbert and Trumbull's pitching performance.
Throughout the season each player on the team came up with a big catch, throw, or hit, which led to a win. This team demonstrated how teamwork and
positive attitudes can create the momentum to carry the team to victory, even if they are down by 7 in the bottom of the 7th.
